How To Remove Crabmeat From The Shells*

Removing crabmeat from the shells couldn’t be easier. Breaking crab legs at their joints pulls the crabmeat free from the cartilage, helping to remove the meat in whole pieces. Follow these simple steps to enjoy every last morsel of the succulent meat.

  1. Grab hot crab legs with two dish towels, then break the legs apart at their joints.
  2. Use scissors to cut through the shells lengthwise to expose the crabmeat.
  3. Extract the crabmeat from the shells with a small fork.

Drawn (Clarified) Butter
Cut 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks) into small pieces. In 1-1/2- to 2-quart saucepan, heat butter over low heat 2 to 3 minutes or until melted. Or, place butter in small microwave-safe bowl covered with paper towel; heat in microwave oven on high 1-1/2 to 2 minutes or until melted. With large spoon, skim off and discard foam from top of melted butter. Makes about 1 cup.
